Natalie Stevens, PhD Dr. Natalie Stevens is a licensed clinical psychologist with 10+ years of experience specializing in health psychology, reproductive health, and trauma recovery. She has expertise helping clients coping with acute and chronic illness, pregnancy and postpartum concerns, birth trauma, and perinatal and infant loss, which allows her to better understand and treat emotional symptoms associated with medical diagnoses and experiences related to the transition to parenthood. She also specializes in working with healthcare professionals who have experienced secondary trauma and workplace stress. She treats adults over the age 18 seeking individual psychotherapy. As a therapist, Dr. Stevens blends cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and narrative approaches tailored to the client’s unique needs and experiences. For clients seeking PTSD treatment, Dr. Stevens uses evidence-based therapies (Cognitive Processing Therapy; Narrative Exposure Therapy) incorporating a “lifespan approach.” She believes therapy is most effective when grounded in clients’ understanding of their own emotional attachment needs and interpersonal styles. She helps clients better understand these aspects of themselves while they also gain practical tools to improve coping, communication and boundary setting. When not providing psychotherapy, Dr. Stevens conducts research on psychological aspects of health and trauma. She has authored or co-authored 30+ research study manuscripts, book chapters and other publications and has conducted NIH-funded research on the impact of trauma on perinatal health. Dr. Stevens is a former Associate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Obstetrics & Gynecology at Rush University Medical Center where she also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in reproductive health and trauma psychology in 2013.
