CBT Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an approach to therapy that focuses on the development of coping strategies and skills that help clients problem solve and change patterns in thinking, behaving, and emotional regulation. CBT heavily focuses on thinking patterns, and the way that maladaptive thinking causes problems in thinking and affect. CBT often utilizes minfulness, exposure, and other approaches to work with the thought patterns.

As CBT is a core approach used in modern psychology, therapists at Lake Cook Behavioral Health are all trained in CBT. Certain therapists focus more on different aspects how how CBT can help our clients, and it is good to talk to your therapist ahead of time if you are interested in CBT and ask how they utilize it in therapy. For example, some therapists at Lake Cook Behavioral Health focus more heavily on distortions, or mindfulness, cognitive restructuring, or behavioral aspects.
